Ittiba at UMT: Valuable but Needs Fixes

The Ittiba program, a mandatory requirement for seventh-semester students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang (UMT), aims to strengthen Islamic and Muhammadiyah values through two key stages: a preparation session and a comprehensive examination. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to shaping students not only as academic achievers but also as individuals rooted in Islamic character.

While the objectives of Ittiba are commendable and deserve full support, its technical management still needs improvement. Several students reported confusion caused by sudden classroom changes and unexpected schedule adjustments. These disruptions affected participants’ readiness and reduced the overall learning comfort, even though the program’s content was highly relevant and beneficial for their spiritual and organizational understanding.

To ensure that Ittiba reaches its intended impact, scheduling and logistical information should be communicated more clearly and through a consistent, centralized channel. Better coordination would allow students to follow the program with greater focus and appreciation. Strengthening the technical management of Ittiba will enable it to serve as a truly meaningful character-building experience not merely a mandatory requirement, but a formative stage in the personal and intellectual development of UMT students.
