On September 20, a staff member from the Englsh Study Program Univeristy of Muhammadiyah Tangerang shared the academic calendar in the official WhatsApp group. According to the schedule, advisor assignments were supposed to be distributed on September 3, with the first supervision session starting on September 15, and the thesis proposal seminar to be held in November.
This situation has led to growing anxiety among students. One student, identified by the initial D, politely asked, “Excuse me, when will the advisor appointment letters be issued, Ma’am?” The inquiry was briefly answered by the staff member, “Please wait for further information.” Another student B then referred to the academic calendar and remarked, “Pardon me, but it is stated here that the advisor assignments were scheduled for September 3.” The staff member responded, “The academic calendar is tentative and subject to change. Please wait until the letters are released by the faculty.”
Although students understand that the faculty and program administration may be handling internal matters, they remain concerned about the limited preparation time for supervision. Many are hoping that the letters will be released within the week so that preparations for the seminar can proceed as planned.
Taking Initiative While Waiting for Advisor Appointments
While such concerns are understandable, students are encouraged not to remain idle. Instead, they are advised to take the initiative in preparing themselves. By revising their proposals, deepening their literature review, or drafting preliminary research frameworks, students can ensure they are ready once official supervision begins.
Referring to guidance from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, several preparatory steps may be taken while waiting for the advisor appointment letters:
Refine the proposal by reviewing its structure and methodology.
Expand the literature review with credible and up-to-date sources.
Adhere to institutional guidelines to ensure proper formatting and academic writing.
Develop a clear research outline and create a simple timeline.
Engage in peer discussions with classmates or seniors for constructive feedback.
By adopting these proactive measures, students can make productive use of their waiting period and strengthen their readiness for the upcoming thesis proposal seminar.
